The Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) of Kuwait has awarded contracts valued at a total of US $564 million for the construction of essential infrastructure within the South Sabah Al Ahmad City development project. These works are directly connected to the development of 13,812 residential units located approximately 80 kilometers south of Kuwait City.
As per a recent report, the initial contract, valued at US $306 million, was awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited. This contract encompasses the construction and subsequent maintenance of road networks and supporting infrastructure for a designated group of suburbs (N5, N7, N9, and N10) within the city, encompassing 7,623 residential units. The second contract, valued at an undisclosed amount, was secured by Sinohydro Corporation. This contract pertains to the construction of infrastructure related to 6,189 residential units situated within suburbs N4, N6, and N8. Both Chinese firms emerged as the most competitive bidders for their respective contracts.
Deputy Director General for Oversight and Information Systems Affairs, Amina Abdul Karim Al Awadhi, confirmed that both companies are expected to complete the entirety of the awarded works within a designated timeframe of 900 days. The project scope encompasses the implementation of essential networks for rainwater drainage, sewage disposal, irrigation, and the distribution of both treated and freshwater supplies. Additionally, the project incorporates the development of necessary traffic management infrastructure.
Furthermore, the project scope includes the execution of civil works for the installation of telephone networks, road lighting systems, electrical cable crossings, and the construction of irrigation tank buildings and substations. As part of the broader infrastructure development plan, the awarded contracts also encompass the responsibility of delivering the first, second, and surface asphalt layers for all secondary and collector roads within the designated residential suburbs.
Ms. Al Awadhi concluded by stating that a tender for a third contract, encompassing the infrastructure development for the remaining residential plots within the city, is currently under consideration. This final contract will encompass the construction and maintenance of road networks and supporting infrastructure for an additional 6,568 plots, ultimately bringing the total number of plots within South Sabah Al Ahmad City to 20,830.
